Nelson Mullins Team Represents Hyosung Heavy Industries, Hyosung HICO, and HICO America in U.S. Power Equipment Joint Venture
A team of 14 Nelson Mullins attorneys led by Woojin Shin, partner and co-chair of the firm’s Economic Development practice, successfully represented Hyosung Heavy Industries, a Korean electric equipment company, and its U.S. subsidiaries, Hyosung HICO Ltd. and HICO America Sales and Technology, Inc. (collectively, “Hyosung”), in a joint venture with a subsidiary of Quanta Services, Inc., a leading provider of specialized infrastructure solutions in North America, to establish HYOSUNG HICO BREAKER, LLC, a U.S.-based manufacturing joint venture for high-voltage gas circuit breakers, in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.
This project is significant because it is a unique joint venture between an industry leading provider of energy infrastructure solutions and a global-scale energy equipment manufacturer to manufacture much-needed electric equipment. It also positions Hyosung to respond to rapidly increasing U.S. demand for power equipment driven by AI data centers and the modernization of aging power grids, while giving Hyosung local U.S. production capabilities for circuit breakers (in addition to transformers manufactured through its existing production capabilities in Memphis - Nelson Mullins represented Hyosung in the related acquisition project in 2020).
The Nelson Mullins team advised on all U.S. legal aspects of the joint venture and related transaction documents. The matter reflects the firm’s continued work on strategically important Korea-U.S. cross-border investment projects, including transactions involving advanced manufacturing, energy infrastructure, and U.S. market entry and expansion by Korean companies.
The Nelson Mullins team that represented Hyosung includes the following attorneys: Woojin Shin, Celeste Kim, Sean Hastings, Jan Siok, Elliott Loncar, Debbie Hembree, Lauren Nations, Emily McClendon, Mark Schwabacher, Michael Scariano, Alexa Venters, Nichole Hayden, Michael Sanders, and Seth Proctor.
