Financial Regulatory Attorney Kevin Tran Joins Nelson Mullins in Nashville

NASHVILLE – Experienced financial regulatory attorney Kevin Tran has joined Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in its Nashville office. He will work with the firm’s national Banking and Financial Services Group as well as the FinTech team, providing bank regulatory compliance, capital-raising, and corporate transactions with a focus on FinTech.

Tran joins from the Waller law firm in Nashville, where he practiced from 2011 to 2014 and again from late 2019 until joining Nelson Mullins. In between stints at Waller, Tran served as Chief of Staff to the Deputy Director for Policy at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C. after advancing from policy analyst and policy adviser roles in the Capital and Regulatory Policy Group in the Division of Supervision and Regulation.

“We are excited that Kevin has joined our firm, bringing his significant experience in the regulatory and FinTech arenas,” said Neil Grayson, head of the Financial Institutions Corporate and Regulatory Group. “His experience helping financial institutions and industry trade groups with regulatory interpretations will be a great asset to our clients, and he will be a tremendous addition to our growing FinTech practice, working alongside Richard Levin, who recently joined us as chair of our Financial Technology and Regulation Practice.”

“We welcome Kevin to our office,” added Nashville Office Managing Partner Larry Papel. “His considerable experience will strengthen our offerings to our FinTech and other bank clients and help expand our Tennessee banking practice.”

In his roles at the Federal Reserve Board, Tran focused on developing regulations and guidance affecting banks and bank holding companies of all sizes, assisted the director with the day-to-day operations of the policy groups, and helped financial institutions and industry trade groups with regulatory interpretations.

Tran began his legal career as a capital markets associate in the New York office of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, LLP. He earned his J.D. in 2009 from Vanderbilt University Law School where he served as the executive editor of the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law. As a Yale University undergraduate, he earned bachelor’s degrees in Economics and History in 2004.
