Offshore Wind Power Initiatives with Jack Smith

Emerging Litigation Podcast and Journal on Emerging Issues in Litigation

President Biden has set ambitious goals for a cleaner environment, calling for the end of carbon-based energy production by 2050. The United States is working to catch up with other nations in the development of greater capacity for energy produced by wind, and these initiatives give alternative fuel companies reason for hope.

In a recent interview on the Emerging Litigation Podcast, Nelson Mullins partner Jack Smith discussed the significant challenges and opportunities for offshore wind in the United States. His interview accompanies an article published in the Journal on Emerging Issues in Litigation, “Bringing Offshore Wind to Land Through the Coastal Zone.”

Smith writes, “Offshore wind projects will be no easy lift for companies as they must navigate a labyrinth of state and federal laws and regulations as well as local opposition.” He goes on to examine these laws and regulations that will come into play as companies try to advance businesses that produce energy from offshore wind. However, he notes that while the burden is on the offshore wind industry to navigate this challenging landscape of regulations and public involvement, the renewable offshore wind energy resource will be worth it in many ways to the industry, the public, and the United States.
