COVID-19 Preparations For Business Premises Owners

Law 360

In an article published March 27, 2020 in Law360, Atlanta partner Holly Hempel and associate Jessica Watson discuss the coronavirus and its impact on businesses in the U.S. The economic effects for both small and large businesses are still unknown, however the authors advise to appoint an individual within the company to gather information from reliable sources and communicate internally on a regular basis. Additionally, the authors advise to continuously visit the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website to follow preventative measures and create an Infectious Disease Outbreak Response Plan.

“If a premises owner becomes aware of a confirmed case of COVID-19 on the property, it would be prudent — and indeed, potentially required — under state legal standards for the landlord to alert other tenants and employees of their possible exposure, given the landlord’s superior knowledge of confirmed cases on the premises,” advises Hempel and Watson.
