In one new act, the Georgia Legislature has simplified the process to appeal decisions to Georgia's state trial courts from lower jurisdictions like municipal courts and local government boards. Both state judges and lawyers have said the previous process was impossibly complicated.
George S. Ray, a senior associate at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP who kept watch over the legislative session, said the new appellate act also opens the door for pro se litigants to navigate the lower court appeals process.
"It's a more streamlined and easy-to-access process that makes a little more sense in the grand scheme of things," Ray said.
