Jason Epstein Featured in the Nashville Post on AI’s Evolving Role in the Legal Profession
Nashville Post
Nelson Mullins partner Jason Epstein was featured in the Nashville Post, diving into the changes in technology and how AI is affecting the legal industry.
“One of the biggest changes was obviously the addition of regulation and laws relating to privacy and security, especially as the technology moved from on-premises install-based product to the cloud,” Epstein said. “And then the European Union and California in particular came down with the first comprehensive privacy laws, and that created a whole new practice group within the technology area around privacy and security, including in the healthcare space when HIPAA came down. Then came blockchain, cryptocurrency, quantum computing and now, of course, artificial intelligence.”
Epstein further discussed how it affects the practice of law and ethical concerns around errors.
“But there are some good uses of it because it's well settled and well used in other areas,” he explained. “One of the things that large language models or these frontier models are good at is data extraction from documents and doing summary analysis of what's in documents. That is a good use of artificial intelligence. Even then, it still requires review.”
