Richard is an accomplished trial lawyer in the areas of medical device, pharmaceutical, and aviation litigation with a national practice. A Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, Richard has tried cases in 12 states and has been actively involved in pre-trial and discovery activities in every other state in the country, as well as in the territories of Guam and Puerto Rico. He also has extensive experience in the role of lead defense counsel in multiple multidistrict litigation proceedings (MDLs).
Richard leads a team of 18 lawyers in several offices of the firm who have worked closely with him in successfully handling MDLs and other litigation with a national scope. Together, with the assistance of numerous other attorneys throughout Nelson Mullins’ nationwide platform, the team has successfully litigated and resolved thousands of cases around the country.
Richard also has substantial appellate experience. A former law clerk for the late Albert Henderson of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, he has handled multiple appeals before the Eleventh Circuit, as well as cases before all of the appellate courts in Georgia. He is also frequently called upon by defense organizations to author amicus briefs in courts throughout the country.
Richard is also a dedicated advocate for diversity in the legal profession, and he has been recognized for the diversity of his team and the trial teams he has developed.
