Brent represents businesses, corporations, and financial institutions in commercial disputes involving breach of contract, trade secret claims, breach of fiduciary duty, creditors’ rights and loan disputes, and highly contentious situations where multiple millions of dollars are at stake. Brent is particularly skilled with civil procedure and well versed in claims involving the Texas Business Organizations Code, Texas Business and Commerce Code, and Texas Property Code. Brent has successfully argued for and against dismissals on numerous dispositive motions and has tried multiple claims to verdict at trial, in arbitration, and at the court of appeals.

Representative Matters

  • Argued and persuaded court of appeals to reverse jury award and render judgment in favor of nonprofit client based on the prevailing party doctrine.
  • Obtained summary judgment in favor of commercial real estate broker accused of fraudulently inducing a prospective buyer based on false representations.
  • Defended and settled a United States Department of Hou sing and Urban Development claim against a property management company for violations of the Federal Program Fraud Civil Remedies Act for alleged violations involving a multi-property fraud scheme that lasted nearly a decade.
  • Defeated temporary injunction enforcement claim permitting a SaaS company to shut down services to its customers during litigation resulting in an expedited and favorable settlement.
  • Persuaded court of superior jurisdiction to vacate temporary restraining order of a lower court in less than six hours after issuance by successfully showing bad faith claims and venue shopping.
