Matthew has a national practice that focuses on the representation and defense of manufacturers in products liability litigation, with an emphasis on medical device and pharmaceutical litigation. He routinely litigates matters in state and federal courts across the country, including multi-district litigation. Matthew has been part of numerous trial teams over the last few years, including for cases that were tried in courts in Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, and Wisconsin. He also has extensive experience managing electronic discovery issues in mass tort litigation. In addition to his active litigation practice, Matthew continues to have various leadership roles within the firm. He currently serves as chair of the firm’s Non-Equity Partner Committee and is a past chair of the Associates Committee.

Experience

  • For almost two decades, has litigated cases involving a variety of products, including medical devices, prescription drugs, heavy trucks, material handling equipment, construction equipment, and home appliances
  • Member of trial team (second chair) that obtained complete defense verdict in over a three-week trial in California federal court in (August 2021)
  • Member of trial team (third chair) that obtained complete defense verdict in over a two-week trial in Florida federal court (July 2021)
  • Has represented clients in litigation in state and federal courts throughout the country
  • Has served as one of the coordinating counsels in national mass tort and medical device tort litigation, where he has played a key role in developing overall litigation strategy and managing all phases of the litigation, including overseeing dozens of lawyers and paralegals throughout the firm
  • Has deposed numerous plaintiffs, plaintiffs' experts, and other key fact witnesses; argued dispositive and other pre-trial motions; and prepared and defended numerous corporate employees including 30(b)(6) witnesses for deposition and trial
  • Has significant experience in managing, negotiating, and devising strategies for electronic discovery in mass tort litigation, including preservation, collection, production, confidentiality, and privilege issues and challenges
  • Has also handled business disputes and protected the trademark rights of corporate clients by obtaining injunctions against infringing activity
