MIAMI — A team of attorneys from Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP closed a $5.3 million Series Seed Financing for the firm’s client, Standby Deposits Incorporated. Standby Deposits is a New York City-based start-up company that provides an alternative for renting deposits by replacing a security deposit with credit history.
Partner Jackson Hwu, co-chair of the firm’s Latin America practice, led the team of lawyers that completed the deal – the team also included Miami associates Rebecca Lester and Brenno Ribeiro.
Hwu, based in Miami, is also a partner in Emerging Companies and Venture Capital practice. He advises high potential start-up and emerging growth companies primarily from Brazil, Latin America, and Florida in corporate structuring, VC financing rounds, acquisitions, board matters, and exits. As outside general counsel to many Brazilian and LatAm emerging companies, Hwu counsels such clients on all legal aspects of their operations, including corporate, tax, data privacy, IP licensing and protection, industry regulations, commercial contracts and partnerships, employment and labor, executive compensation, and litigation.
Lester and Ribeiro both advise multinational corporations, emerging growth companies, and venture capital investors in a variety of transactions, including private equity, financings, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate matters.
