Former U.S. Secretary of Education Dick Riley Addresses S.C. School Administrators’ Innovative Ideas Institute

“Education change does not happen overnight. It takes a nuanced leader with an aspirational goal, a well-thought-out plan to achieve the goal and then consistent implementation.  If we believe in the vision, we must have the resilience to stay the course – but, as I’ve said, always be willing to adjust to changing conditions.”

Dick Riley, a partner in Nelson Mullins’ Greenville and Washington office, addressed the S.C. School Administrators’ Innovative Ideas Institute. Riley served as U.S. Secretary of Education from 1993-200 and as Governor of South Carolina from 1979-87, where he was known as the “education governor” because of his successful reforms. He remains an ambassador for improving education in the state, nation, and abroad.
