The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is expected to run out of funds by the end of May, potentially cutting off millions of low-income households from discounted internet services. As many anticipate the ACP's demise, wireless operators and mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) are preparing for what's next.
Members of the National Lifeline Association (NaLA), a non-profit industry trade group that represents many ACP and Lifeline-focused MVNOs and distributors, are concerned about the future of ACP and are figuring out how to keep their customers connected if ACP funding is allowed to lapse.
“If there is a gap in funding it will be very challenging for these businesses and their customers,” Heitmann told the publication. “Some customers will be unable to pay and some businesses will be unable to offer a product that consumers can use.”
