President-elect Joe Biden has announced that he intends to nominate Pete Buttigieg — former South Bend, Ind., mayor and candidate for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination — as secretary of transportation. 

While some transportation industry leaders see Buttigieg as inexperienced for this role, others see him as an exciting possibility for the future of American infrastructure.

Orlando partner Robert Alfert observes Buttigieg's bipartisan appeal and consulting experience, calling him "extremely pro-infrastructure, and savvy enough on capital markets, especially given his stint at McKinsey, to understand the value of public-private collaborations to assist in meeting the nation’s significant needs." He adds, "I think Pete is viewed as a relative moderate, so perhaps he can help effect a bipartisan infrastructure plan that works and can sell."
