Orlando partner Robert Alfert gives insight to the recently signed legislation by Florida governor Ronald DeSantis that will allow the state’s department of transportation to do P3 deals specifically to fund autonomous vehicle technology and systems. The state’s legislators said an amended version of the statue 316 that regulates motor vehicle law was put before the governor to improve safety and reduce traffic congestion, but it specifically allowed the Florida Turnpike Enterprise (FTE), which is the DOT's business unit that manages private operators that service the state's highways, to contract directly with AV private developers. Specifically, the law's "on-demand autonomous vehicle networks provision" means FTE officials can now engage fiber and fixed wireless developers to install the 5G broadband that underpins the technology supporting AV data transmission.
