David Leon Quoted by Law360 on Affordable Housing Market

Orlando partner David Leon was recently quoted in a Law360 article discussing the current state of affordable housing development.
Tariffs have affected construction costs that rose sharply during the COVID-19 pandemic, but constant demand has driven builders and local governments to find solutions.
"The good news is that the funding programs are still in place," Leon said. "Everyone recognizes — and when I say everyone, I mean, on both sides of the aisle in Congress and in the White House — recognizes the absolute need for safe, decent, affordable housing. … And because we have that constant, we can pin this to say, 'We're not sure how we're going to get there exactly, but we have to get there.'"
Leon, the chair of the firm's Affordable Housing Industry Group, also noted some realities of the situation, including incentive programs that push construction firms to buy more expensive materials during builds to promote durability. He also praised Florida's persistence in passing and implementing the Live Local Act to incentivize affordable housing construction.
