Nelson Mullins Strengthens National Tax Controversy and Litigation Practice with Three-Attorney Addition
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP is pleased to announce the addition of three attorneys to its growing national Tax Controversy and Litigation practice. Patrick McCann joins the firm as a partner in Atlanta; Eman Arabi-Katbi joins as counsel in Houston; and Andrew Mullendore joins as senior associate in Atlanta.
“Tax controversy is a significant and growing need for our clients, particularly as businesses and individuals navigate increasingly complex federal and state tax issues,” said Michael Hollingsworth, co-chair of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions Group and Investment Management Group. “The addition of Patrick, Eman and Andrew expands our capabilities across the tax controversy lifecycle and brings together valuable perspectives from private practice, government and public accounting. Their experience will further strengthen our ability to serve clients facing complex tax disputes across the country.”
McCann focuses his practice on representing taxpayers throughout the tax controversy lifecycle, including examinations, appeals, and litigation, and advises clients on federal tax planning and restructuring. His experience spans federal income and corporate income taxes, partnership and employment taxes, estate and gift tax matters, tax shelter penalties, and promoter examinations. He also represents small captive insurance companies that elect federal tax treatment under Section 831(b) and the businesses that utilize them.
Arabi-Katbi joins Nelson Mullins from the Internal Revenue Service, where she served as Associate Area Counsel with the IRS Office of Chief Counsel. A licensed attorney and Certified Public Accountant (CPA), she brings experience in government, private practice, and public accounting to her tax controversy and litigation work. She advises individuals and businesses on tax matters including international tax, transfer pricing, estate planning, business transactions, tax compliance, and resolving tax obligations with federal and state taxing authorities. Her practice also includes business litigation and commercial contracts.
Mullendore is a tax attorney and CPA who represents businesses, high-net-worth individuals, entities, and fiduciaries in complex federal and state tax matters. He focuses on tax controversy and litigation, including examinations, appeals, civil litigation, and government investigations. His experience spans Employee Retention Credits, micro-captive insurance, conservation easements, offshore reporting, cryptocurrency transactions, trust fund recovery penalties, IRS criminal investigations, and state and local tax controversies.
“Bringing together attorneys with experience on different sides of the tax controversy process allows us to provide clients with a broader perspective and more comprehensive counsel,” said Juan F. Vasquez, Jr., chair of the firm’s Tax Practice Group and Tax Controversy Litigation Team. “Patrick, Eman, and Andrew each bring a distinct set of experiences and capabilities, and their additions strengthen our team’s ability to handle complex matters involving federal, state, and local taxing authorities. We look forward to the contributions they will make to our clients and to the continued growth of our national Tax Controversy and Litigation practice.”
