In an article published on April 3, 2023 in Part B News about how the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency is playing out for healthcare providers, two Nelson Mullins healthcare attorneys shared their insights.
Partner Hannah L. Cross in Washington, D.C. said she suspects most patients will soon lean on their primary care physicians for COVID-19 tests, vaccines and other treatments that they might have previously collected over the counter at pharmacies.
"I also expect urgent care [facilities] to carry this burden, as many Americans still rely on urgent care services for medical care,"Cross said.
Partner Courtney Tito in Florida explained how the end of the public health emergency will also affect remote patient monitoring (RPM). She noted that from May 11, 2023 and on, providers will only be able to bill for RPM services for which at least 16 days of data has been collected, whereas during the public health emergency they could bill RPM on patients diagnosed with COVID-19 after just two days of data collection.
