Boston partner and chair of the Nelson Mullins Gaming Group, Katie Baker, and Nashville partner Tom Lee will speak at the firm-sponsored International Association of Gaming Advisors (IAGA) 2025 International Gaming Summit in Germany in June.
Baker will present "Walking the Tightrope: Balancing the Need for Responsible Gambling While Remaining Competitive,” alongside her co-panelists:
The panel will discuss the overwhelming criticism that exists surrounding the gambling industry, recent news headlines that have added to this bad publicity, being licensed in multiple jurisdictions and the struggles that accompany this position, and much more.
Lee will be moderating the panel, “The Convergence of Entertainment, Media and Sports Betting,” alongside panelists:
The discussion will analyze how entertainment, media, and sports betting are meeting to redefine how consumers are viewing and interpreting their favorite sports, the collaboration among these three sectors to provide an interactive product while ensuring responsible gaming practices, how broadcasts are being tailored in ways that cater to a sports betting audience, and much more.
Baker is the chair of the Gaming Industry Group at the firm. She is a gaming regulatory attorney and litigator who assists casino gaming, igaming, sports betting, and fantasy sports operators, vendors, and entrepreneurs to navigate the state and federal, commercial and tribal gaming landscape, including leveraging fintech solutions.
Lee focuses his practice on government relations, including state government procurement, gaming law, and public-facing litigation. With more than 40 years’ experience as an Emmy award-winning journalist, political strategist, lobbyist, and attorney, Lee is especially adept when conflict resolution requires awareness of policy, politics, and the press. He draws on his unique experience as a former sports betting regulator to advise clients in the gaming industry. He also serves as an adjunct professor of gaming law at Vanderbilt Law School.
Founded in 1980 by a group of gaming attorneys, IAGA aims to “to unite in common organization those professionally engaged in the gaming industry, to facilitate negotiations in the gaming industry and protect and promote the mutual interests of the corporation’s members and to promote and encourage education in the gaming industry.” The annual International Gaming Summit brings leaders in the gaming space from around the world together to network and discuss timely and relevant topics.
