Nelson Mullins partner Steven Augustino will be speaking at SIPNOC 2022 – which will feature a comprehensive webinar series focusing on the challenges and opportunities related to the deployment of the STIR/SHAKEN Call Authentication Framework. The panel he will be speaking on is titled "Assessing the 2022 Robocall Landscape – A Discussion With Outside Counsel." The panel will be moderated by Kevin Rupy, Partner, Wiley Rein, LLP and the other panellists include Michael Pryor, Partner, Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, LLP; and Glenn Richards, Partner, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP.
Since passage of the TRACED Act in 2019, industry and government stakeholders have embarked on an aggressive implementation effort that continues to transform the voice network. This ambitious agenda will continue throughout 2022, and this panel’s unique outside counsel perspective will explore ongoing and developing issues in the robocall mitigation space. Topics will include the FCC’s ongoing blocking notification and gateway provider proceedings, with particular focus on their complex dynamics and potential outcomes. The panel will also discuss the substantial increase in federal and state enforcement efforts, increased private litigation, and how industry stakeholders may need to consider adjustments to their business operations. The discussion will wrap up with a look ahead to proceedings on the horizon, including the FCC’s review of the STIR/SHAKEN framework, and the FTC’s government and business impostor proceeding.
