New Population Leader
North Carolina has a new population leader. Mecklenburg County is no longer the state’s most populous county, new U.S. Census Bureau estimates show. After years of creeping up on Mecklenburg, Wake County, which includes Raleigh, finally overtook it — 1.13 million to 1.12 million. Overall, NC is now home to an estimated 10.6 million people – the state will pick up one congressional seat as a result of the population growth.

North Carolina’s Raleigh-Durham market has been selected as a preferred host of the 2027 Summer World University Games by the United States International University Sports Federation (USIUSF). The World University Games are the world’s largest event for student athletes.
Barking News
Gov. Roy Cooper announced his family has adopted “Violet,” a special-needs dog from the Wake County SPCA. Violet was having seizures and problems with her back legs and no one knew why. Due to her condition, she was having trouble getting adopted. The “barking news” was announced on the First Pets of North Carolina social media accounts and then retweeted on the Governor's official and campaign Twitter accounts.
