GOP convention update
With the GOP convention being moved to Jacksonville, Fla., many business leaders from Charlotte, N.C., including Republicans, are expressing concern over the contractual liability exposure. Millions of dollars in contracts cannot now be performed, and many businesses will not be engaged for hospitality and services in connection with the event. See article at this link.
Coronavirus hospitalizations
North Carolina continues to see a surge in coronavirus cases. The State is currently at its peak with respect to the number of cases and in-patient hospitalizations related to the virus. See article at this link.
Governor vs legislature on business re-openings
This week amplified the rift between the Governor and the legislature over opening up North Carolina. The Governor continues to order certain businesses to shut down and others to be restricted in their business activities, and the legislature is passing legislation to fully open them. An example of such rift is the legislature’s passage of legislation allowing gyms to open in North Carolina. See article at this link.
Peter Hans elected President of UNC System
