Nelson Mullins Gives Back at the Sara J. González Memorial Park

Nelson Mullins’ Atlanta office attorneys and staff dedicated their time to serve residents in the community through food distribution held at the Sara J. González Memorial Park on March 2. The park was built to commemorate the legacy of Sara J. González and to honor Atlanta’s diverse communities, which it has accomplished and continues to do. These distributions offer food staples, culturally important foods sourced from local businesses, vaccinations, and clothing to the community, which largely include immigrant and other low-income families who are left out of other food or social assistance programs.

On average, 120 families representing over 500 individuals are served regularly at the Sara J. González park at the twice monthly distributions held by Welcoming Atlanta in partnership with Second Helpings Atlanta. The distribution program was created in response to the community's need for essential items, and Welcoming Atlanta has made it a focus over the last two year to mitigate the detrimental effect the pandemic has had on the community.

Nelson Mullins co-sponsored the event alongside Welcoming Atlanta (the Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs) and CORE. The firm's contribution at the distribution on March 2 provided 111 families representing an estimated 500 individuals with the food from A. Garcia and from Second Helpings Atlanta. In 2022 the firm has sponsored three distributions, serving a total of 323 families, an estimated 1,454 individuals.

The Nelson Mullins volunteers, alongside the dedicated WATL staff, included Atlanta attorneys Matthew Lerner and Ritika Lakhani, marketing representatives Sabina Farman and Jocelyn Adams, and Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Kat Taylor (not pictured).

"We appreciate the opportunity to have the Atlanta office serve and engage with our community at this food distribution. Seeing the impact the firm's contribution had on the community is inspiring in our efforts to continue to give back," says Michael Hollingsworth who is the Atlanta Office Managing Partner and selected by Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens to serve on his transition team.
