In an interview with a publication representing franchise owners in the quick-service industry, New York-based Partner Mitch Boyarsky and Senior Associate Amy Cheng explain the recent unionization trend among quick-service restaurants, including a coffee shop in Buffalo, New York: “Workers have reported feeling greater stress with more challenging customer demands. These working conditions create fertile ground for union organizing,” Boyarsky said.
To questions of how unions typically organize, Cheng referenced grassroots efforts where several employees may huddle to share their grievances and express common interests. Once a few workers share interest in organizing, they generally assemble an informal committee supported by a union, she said.
Boyarsky focuses his practice on labor and employment.
