Nelson Mullins Encompass partner Travis Bustamante will be speaking at the upcoming Sedona Conference Working Group One Annual Meeting in Charlotte on October 23-24. Bustamante will be speaking on the first day of the event and will present “Professionalism in the Era of Misinformation: Upholding Truth and Integrity.”

Alongside his co-panelists, Hon. Adam M. Conrad with the North Carolina Business Court, Adam Gajadharsingh with Google, and Joseph P. Guglielmo with Scott + Scott, Bustamante will discuss the complex challenges associated with the spread of misinformation and disinformation, particularly as they impact legal proceedings and public discourse. This session will examine the ethical obligations, professional boundaries, and behavioral expectations attorneys must navigate when communicating with clients, opposing counsel, and the judiciary. Participants will also discuss strategies for addressing misinformation in legal contexts and fostering public confidence in the legal system.

Bustamante’s litigation practice focuses on electronic discovery, data breach response efforts, and helping companies respond to government investigations and inquiries. He works with clients in state and federal courts on issues of discovery strategy and provides counsel regarding information governance, fact investigations, document review strategies, discovery motions practice, and document productions.

The Sedona Conference Working Group Series got its roots in 2002, when the Sedona Conference forum evolved into a more open conversation that covered some of the most challenging and broad legal matters of the day. The missions of each working group vary slightly but remain consistent in aiming to “develop principles, guidance, and best practice recommendations.” Members of the Working Group Series have access to methods of education, networking opportunities, and other forms of support.
