Columbia partner George Cauthen and associate Blake Williams will give a presentation on homeless courts to the Spartanburg County Bar Association on July 31.
Homeless courts were founded as an alternative legal process for homeless people, who come into contact with law enforcement more often, that centers on rehabilitation rather than incarceration. Cauthen has been involved in establishing South Carolina's homeless courts in Columbia, Charleston, and, most recently, Myrtle Beach. His and William's presentation will focus on the history of homeless courts, which began in San Diego in 1989, and how they can be developed in any city.
