Prior to joining the firm, Sarah successfully completed two federal clerkships in the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia. During her clerkships, she developed strong skills in persuasive writing, complex case analysis, and legal research. She handled cases from initiation to final disposition, preparing draft opinions on discovery disputes, dispositive motions, pre- and post-trial motions, as well as jury instructions and verdict forms. In her two years as a clerk, she assisted the court in trying four cases to verdict.
Outside of trial preparation, Sarah managed diverse dockets that included criminal matters involving controlled substance offenses, firearms, sex offenses, and white-collar crimes. Her civil caseload spanned issues involving the Clean Water Act, Equal Protection and Due Process challenges, Second Amendment claims, § 1983 actions, complex commercial disputes, class actions, WARN Act claims, Fair Labor Standards Act, and the West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act. Through her clerkships, Sarah gained invaluable insight into the federal court system and a deep understanding of litigation across a broad spectrum of legal issues.
