North Carolina Attorneys Honored for Their Leadership in the Law

RALEIGH, N.C. (October 9, 2020) — North Carolina Lawyers Weekly has selected Nelson Mullins Partners Noah H. Huffstetler III and G. Gray Wilson for a 2020 Leadership in the Law Award, which recognizes attorneys from across the Tar Heel State who have achieved success in their law practice, made contributions to society, and had an impact on the legal profession.

Huffstetler served as Managing Partner of the Raleigh office from 2003 to 2019. His wide-ranging practice includes healthcare law, administrative law, and business and appellate litigation. He founded the firm’s North Carolina healthcare practice that has become a market leader in the state, and provides regulatory and litigation services to major hospital systems, physician groups and other stakeholders in the healthcare industry, as well as to the North Carolina General Assembly.

Within the Triangle region, Huffstetler has served on trustee and directors boards for organizations such as the North Carolina Teachers and State Employees Health Plan, the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina, Saint Timothy’s School, the Triangle Heart Ball, the University of North Carolina School of Public Health, the University of North Carolina Educational Foundation, the Board of Visitors at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and the North Carolina Commission on Business Laws and the Economy.

Based in the firm’s Winston-Salem office, Wilson is a trial lawyer with decades of experience in a wide range of complex litigation matters, including professional liability disputes in the healthcare industry. He has tried approximately 300 cases over the course of his career.

Known as a “renaissance man” among his colleagues, Wilson has served for many years in top leadership positions at both the North Carolina Bar Association, and more recently, at the North Carolina State Bar, where he served as President from 2018 to 2019. Since 2006, he has served on the Board of Directors of Lawyers Mutual Liability Co. of NC and has been chair of the Board since 2015.  This professional liability company is the largest in the state, insuring over 8,000 lawyers, which represents over 65% of the practicing bar. Outside the courtroom, Wilson has written four editions of the leading civil procedure treatise in North Carolina (first published in 1989), a novel entitled The Killing Pond and a poetry blog.

Winners will be recognized at a virtual ceremony in November.
