Nelson Mullins Strengthens Litigation Group with Addition of Three Seasoned Partners

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP, a full-service national law firm with offices from coast to coast, today announces the recent addition of three new partners to its litigation group. Mark Grider, Aaron Lang, and Charles Munn will focus their practice on matters involving litigation, crisis management, and government response. The group represents clients in sensitive government enforcement actions, corporate and congressional investigations, and high-stakes civil litigation.

Leading the team is Grider, a veteran litigator based in Washington, D.C., who has extensive experience working in multiple federal government administrations. Lang and Munn, two highly experienced litigators, work in the firm’s office in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“We are very pleased to welcome this talented group of litigators,” said Nelson Mullins managing partner Jim Lehman. “Their unique experience broadens the nature of our litigation practice with additional specialization in corporate and government related investigations and enforcement actions.”

Grider served as deputy associate attorney general in the Office of the Associate Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), where his management experience included civil and criminal matters relating to the Antitrust Division, Consumer Protection Bureau, Civil Fraud Section, environmental, and tax issues. His background includes serving as an assistant U.S. attorney and a senior counsel in the Office of the Deputy Attorney General in the DOJ, where he worked in healthcare, intellectual property, and civil and criminal corporate fraud enforcement matters. Grider served in the Executive Office of the President as senior associate counsel and special assistant to the President in the Office of the White House Counsel and has held a variety of other roles in the DOJ.

As a litigator and trial lawyer in private practice, Grider assists corporations, startups, and individuals involved in government enforcement actions, corporate and congressional investigations, cybersecurity issues, and commercial disputes. He has experience working on issues involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act issues and matters involving the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. He has advised clients in the healthcare industry on matters relating to the False Claims Act, healthcare fraud, the opioid crisis, and competition and consumer harm in the online marketplace.

“Nelson Mullins has innovative and visionary leadership — we are excited to serve our clients at Nelson Mullins, an established platform with proven success. Like our team, Nelson Mullins puts a premium on client-driven, collaborative solutions,” Grider said.

An accomplished litigator, Lang has over sixteen years of experience handling high-dollar securities, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance litigation. He also has represented clients in healthcare litigation, government enforcement actions, consumer class actions, employment litigation, and business cases, as well as regulatory and internal investigations.  Lang has practiced at several national law firms, including Freshfields and Cadwalader. He is ranked by Super Lawyers and by Best Lawyers as One to Watch for Commercial Litigation and Corporate Governance and Compliance.

Munn, a former Cravath and Cadwalader litigator, practices at the state and federal level with a concentration on complex commercial litigation, including high-stakes contractual disputes, disputed intellectual property ownership, civil RICO, commercial loan foreclosures, and corporate fraud. He also handles internal and government investigations and OFAC compliance issues related to civil litigation with foreign governments and individuals.

The group joins the Nelson Mullins litigation practice, which has more than 500 attorneys assisting in high stakes matters, representing clients including pharmaceutical companies and manufacturers, consumer products, medical device manufacturers, automobile manufacturers, national chemical companies, major hotel chains, and many more. The firm serves as national litigation counsel for some of the largest matters in the country and manages high-profile product liability matters, complex commercial litigation, white collar and government investigations cases. They will join Chambers Global and Chambers USA-ranked attorneys and practice groups, which includes Encompass, one of the country’s largest full-service electronic discovery practices.
