Nelson Mullins Senior Policy Advisor Connie Myers Awarded SC Order of the Palmetto
Connie Myers, a senior policy advisor at Nelson Mullins, has been awarded the Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian honor bestowed by the Governor of South Carolina.
The Order of the Palmetto is awarded to individuals who demonstrate exceptional lifetime achievement, service, and contributions of statewide or national significance. Established in 1971, the award recognizes individuals whose work has had a meaningful and enduring impact on South Carolina and its people. In recognition of extraordinary service and lasting contributions to South Carolina, Cody Sims, Director of Federal Affairs, Office of the Governor, presented the award on behalf of Governor McMaster to Myers on April 21. He was joined by U.S. Congressman Jim Clyburn (D-SC).
Originally from Orangeburg, South Carolina, Myers is a proud graduate of the University of South Carolina and has continued to embody the values and traditions of her alma mater. 35 years ago, she proposed and still champions the Washington Semester Program to enhance educational opportunities for USC students. Working on Capitol Hill with South Carolina Congressman Butler Derrick, she advanced the individual, community, and business interests of the state’s citizenry and the nation. Following that, she worked alongside Nelson Mullins partner and former S.C. Governor Richard W. Riley, who then was the U.S. Secretary of Education. During her tenure there, Myers played a pivotal role in advancing intergovernmental cooperation and national education policy. Subsequently, she assisted in establishing the Nelson Mullins D.C. office, which continues to grow through her leadership and service to South Carolina and national entities. Among other accomplishments, she established and continues to manage the South Carolina Business Council, an organization that connects D.C. representatives of S.C.entities to share knowledge of federal activity and foster collaboration to promote economic growth within the state.
In support of Myers’ nomination, U.S. Congressman Jim Clyburn (D-SC) wrote, “South Carolina is highly fortunate that Connie’s tenacity has been consistently placed in service of our state’s people, particularly those who often have been overlooked. Her zealous advocacy has brought much-needed economic development and opportunity to communities, especially those in rural parts of our state – that previously had lost out. She has helped improve the life opportunities of many young people.”
Throughout her career, Myers has earned high respect for her integrity, diligence, leadership, and dedication to advancing policy initiatives and civic engagement. In her role as a senior policy advisor at Nelson Mullins, she works closely with local, state and federal leaders, organizations and other stakeholders to develop public-private partnerships that help shape thoughtful, effective public policy.
The Order of the Palmetto is a tribute to Connie Myers’ distinguished career of commitment, service and leadership to improve the life of people and communities throughout South Carolina and the nation.
