Nelson Mullins Partner Sheria Clarke Confirmed by U.S. Senate to Federal Bench
Nelson Mullins partner Sheria Clarke has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as a judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina following a bipartisan 52-38 vote on May 19.
Clarke practiced in the firm’s Greenville office, where she focused on white-collar and regulatory matters, government investigations, congressional oversight, and complex litigation. She joined Nelson Mullins in June 2024 and previously practiced with the firm from 2019 to 2021.
Before returning to private practice, Clarke served as an assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of South Carolina, where she handled significant federal matters and earned widespread respect for her integrity, sound judgment, and exceptional legal acumen.
Her distinguished public service also includes roles as staff director for the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, counsel to the chair of the House Committee on Ethics, and counsel for the House Select Committee on Benghazi.
During her Senate nomination hearing, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) praised Clarke as “highly intelligent, even-keeled and humble,” adding, “Of all the people we could have picked to serve as a federal district judge in South Carolina, we could not have done better than you.”
Clarke’s confirmation marks a significant milestone in an accomplished legal career dedicated to public service, the rule of law, and the administration of justice throughout South Carolina and across the nation.
