RALEIGH, N.C. – Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) has appointed Raleigh partner Jeff Kelly as chair of the Advisory Board to its new Innovation Lab. In this role, Kelly will work closely with LANC’s chief innovation officer to establish the Innovation Lab’s Advisory Board and develop partnerships for scalable access to justice solutions.
LANC is launching the Innovation Lab to serve as a dedicated hub for identifying and implementing new solutions for bridging the justice gap. The lab will bring the community together through various projects that improve the delivery of legal services. The overall mission of the lab is to “engage in transformative innovation that improves the delivery of legal services, expands access to justice, and addresses inequity in the delivery of legal services in rural areas,” according to LANC.
Kelly is a member of LANC’s Board of Directors and Chairs its Community and Government Relations Committee. He is also serves in leadership positions for organizations levering new technology to modernize the practice of law, including serving on the Governing Council of the American Bar Association’s Center for Innovation and as a Fellow of Duke Law School’s Center on Law and Technology.
Kelly focuses his practice in the areas of emerging technology, particularly in areas involving data analytics, artificial intelligence, digital assets, and FinTech. He works closely with entrepreneurs and companies to effectively navigate changing regulations, government investigations, and complex corporate and securities law challenges. He also represents clients before tribunals and agencies that concentrate on regulating new technology and protecting trade secrets, including the North Carolina Business Court, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and federal courts.
