Legal intelligence platform Lexology Index has selected John F. Kuppens, a partner in Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP’s Columbia office, for its Who’s Who Legal: Thought Leaders USA 2025 directory.
John is co-chair of the firm’s Consumer & Mechanical Product Liability Industry Group and has over 30 years’ experience representing clients in product liability and commercial litigation in state and federal courts across the country, including as national and regional counsel. He also counsels clients on U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Federal Trade Commission, and Food & Drug Administration regulatory matters and on risk prevention issues.
In addition to his 35 years at Nelson Mullins, John maintains a robust collection of professional activities. These include serving as a current officer for Lawyers for Civil Justice and the 2017–2018 president of Defense Research Institute, the leading organization of defense attorneys and in-house counsel. He is also a Life Fellow for the American Bar Foundation and a member of both the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel and the International Association of Defense Counsel, serving as part of the Trial Academy for the latter in 2007.
Lexology Index is a global legal intelligence platform for risk mitigation that provides legal updates, stays abreast of change, and finds expert counsel and guidance from the world’s leading law firms.
Lexology was previously a featured platform of Law Business Research, a London-based provider of research and analysis, before LBR rebranded as Lexology Index. Lexology reports on the international legal services marketplace and is a Strategic Research Sponsor of the American Bar Association Section of International Law. Nominees have been selected based on independent survey work with both general counsel and private practice lawyers worldwide, the organization says.
