Atlanta Legal Community Elects Amy B. Cheng as its First AAPI President to Lead the Atlanta Bar Association

ATLANTA — Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP partner Amy B. Cheng has been elected to serve as President of the Atlanta Bar Association for the 2023–2024 term. Cheng, who is based out of the firm’s Atlanta office, joined the Atlanta Bar Association shortly after law school and has served in various leadership roles since 2016.

As the Atlanta Bar Association turns 135 years old, Cheng is the first individual of Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander descent to serve as its president. The Atlanta Bar Association was founded in 1888 and is one of most respected legal institutions in the southeast. Members of the Atlanta Bar include lawyers, law students, patent agents, legal assistants, and more professionals of the law industry.

"I’m incredibly proud to serve as the first AAPI President of the Atlanta Bar Association," Cheng said. "I look forward to representing our members and acting as the bridge between the Atlanta legal sector and businesses, colleges and universities, and nonprofits so that, together, Atlanta can shine more brightly."

In early 2023, Cheng was selected by the Atlanta Magazine, Atlanta’s premier general interest publication, as an honoree for its 2023 Women Making a Mark program for her significant contributions to the local community. In April 2022, Cheng was selected as an "On the Rise" honoree for the 2022 Georgia Legal Awards, recognizing Georgia’s most promising lawyers under the age of 40. A native of Charleston and proud graduate of Emory University (Bachelor of Science), University of South Carolina Arnold School of Public Health, and Emory University School of Law, Cheng joined Nelson Mullins in 2018.

An experienced and fervent litigator, Cheng has defended individuals, companies, and higher education institutions in a wide range of labor and employment, business litigation, white collar defense, and government investigations matters.

Established in 1897, Nelson Mullins is an Am Law 100 firm of more than 1,000 attorneys, policy advisors and professionals with 32 offices in 16 states and Washington, D.C. For more information, go to
