Nelson Mullins Atlanta senior associate Amy B. Cheng will receive the prestigious Georgia Asian Pacific American Bar Association’s (GAPABA) Rising Star Award at this year's Gala on Sept. 15, 2022.

In addition to assisting clients in the areas of labor and employment, business litigation, and white collar defense, she devotes a significant amount of her time to serving the Georgia community and those it serves. Notably, she has served on the Atlanta Bar's Board of Directors Association since 2018 and was named treasurer in 2020. She is set to become the association's next president in 2023.

Cheng was appointed co-chair of GAPABA's Women's Leadership Network in 2022 while still maintaining her involvement in other professional and community organizations including the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Georgia Lawyers for the Arts, the Korean American Bar Association of Georgia, and the Georgia State Bar.

She earned a B.S. in Biology from Emory University in 2009. She returned home to South Carolina to pursue a Master's Degree in Public Health from the University of South Carolina in 2012, and then returned to Emory University School of Law to complete her J.D. in 2015.

GAPABA, formerly known as the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Georgia Chapter (NAPABA-GA), was founded in 1993 by Prof. Natsu Saito (Georgia State Univ. College of Law) and Judge Alvin T. Wong (State Court of DeKalb County). Both strove to establish a Georgia support network for Asian Pacific American attorneys and those interested in Asian American legal issues. Today, GAPABA is one of the most notable nonprofit organizations advancing AAPI attorneys and law students.
