In an interview with Authority Magazine, Atlanta-based Partner Katelyn Fredericks shares what it takes to excel and stand out in the legal industry.
When asked her primary motivation and drive behind her work, Fredericks said the inherent excitement in the pace and strategy of M&A transactions: “No two deals are the same, and there is a continuing learning curve – whether on substantive deal matters or client industries.”
Fredericks advises junior attorneys to take time to understand the larger picture instead of solely focusing on discrete pieces and parts: “By taking time to understand the larger transaction, where your piece fits into the transaction, your client’s business and industry in general, your will set yourself apart.”
On the five things needed to succeed and stand out, Fredericks said adaptability, role definition, project management, remaining clam under pressure, and teamwork are instrumental to success as an M&A attorney, but understanding what your client needs and adapting to meet those needs takes precedence.
