South Carolina Lawyers Weekly
A team of intellectual property attorneys in Nelson Mullins' Greenville office were noted by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly after their client, a Spartanburg-based fabric manufacturer, received a defense verdict in a patent infringement lawsuit. Sam Outten, William Brown, Neil Jones, and Giles Schanen successfully defended Tietex International when Precision Fabrics Group claimed the company infringed on their patents for an unwoven, fire-retardent "filler cloth" used to make mattresses.
Outten told SC Lawyers Weekly that Dr. Richard Horrocks, widely acknowledged as a foremost expert on intumescent chemistry, gave an expert testimony that was one of the keys to securing the jury verdict. "Dr. Horrocks did a very good job explaining why we didn't infringe," he said. "I think that was very important in the jury's verdict. He was acknowledged to be one of the leading experts in that field, and even PFG acknowledged his expertise."
