Criminal investigations appear to be ramping up again following the reimposed U.S. sanctions on Venezuela. In an article published by Law360 on August 27, Miami-based of counsel, Jon Sale, commented on the uptick in activity in three criminal cases he’s handling related to alleged Venezuela-related sanctions violations.
"A lot of times, the government has other things to do. But I think what's happened here is more than a coincidence," Sale said. "The agents had worked for years on some of these cases, then suddenly the rug was pulled out from under them. Now, they're returning to things that they've invested time and manpower in."
Sale is co-chair of the firm’s white collar and government investigations practice group.
