Professionals in the infrastructure industry are sounding concerns on risk management and insurance practices on large-scale infrastructure deals, especially pertaining to P3 projects. In a recent article in P3 Bulletin, Nelson Mullins partner Robert Alfert was interviewed about the key issues challenging the industry and how to combat them.
“The first problem is about education and identifying what the risks are and what the more comprehensive ways of dealing with the risk are,” said Alfert. "Many of the issues begin at the initial, project-planning stage and can easily be avoided if those involved put more consideration into the insurance space."
Alfert goes on to discuss the changing nature of the P3 industry and how to adapt. With more small and medium enterprises entering the P3 industry, he feels there is a lack of focus on insurance and bonding.
“You need to find an insurance strategy to provide those smaller companies coverage as well," he said. "That tends to be a significant struggle that shouldn't be overlooked.”
