‘Not About to Stop’: Pace of Firm Mergers in Southeast, Elsewhere Expected to Stay High

Law.com | The Daily Report

In a Daily Report article published on February 10, Nelson Mullins Managing Partner Jim Lehman joins other large and midsized law firm leaders in looking at merger activity, new offices and competition throughout the Southeast.

"I’m not surprised at all, and in fact I think you’re going to see more of it," Lehman told the publication in an interview. His comments echo that of data released earlier this year that shows industry analysts expect law firm mergers to continue in 2023.

"I actually think the trend will accelerate. I think you’ll see more consolidation over the next 12 to 24 months," said Jim Lehman, managing partner with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, about merger activity in the Southeast and elsewhere. "If you look at the difficult times in 2007 and 2008, you see a lot of consolidation coming out of that. While I don’t believe we’re facing that type of stress in the legal industry, I do believe were facing some stress, so you’ll see more consolidation."
