Nelson Mullins partner Michael Wilson has been practicing law for more than 30 years, and over that time he's made a name for himself in construction law and litigation. In an interview with the Orlando Business Journal, he says the unlikely key to litigation is not so much in the winning as it is in achieving business solutions for his clients.
"When I was a young lawyer, I enjoyed the process of going [to trial], arguing, and winning. As you get older, you realize that's not as important as perhaps finding a way to make yourself a valuable asset to your client," he said. "It's not typical that a litigator gets looked at as somebody who provides value to a client's business process, but that's what I've always tried to do — help the clients become more successful." Wilson also shares some wisdom on business mistakes made during litigation, big lessons, and the cases that made his career.
