DRI – The Voice of the Defense Bar
Columbia partner John F. Kuppens was the featured guest on DRI’s podcast "A Conversation With." As immediate past president of DRI, Kuppens discussed meeting the needs of young lawyers, how to adapt to changes in the profession, and the importance of member service.
"Member service and valuing the efforts of these volunteers has to be at the forefront of your mind all the time," Kuppens said. "It's extremely gratifying to me how many people are willing to work together for the satisfaction of getting things done as a team."
Kuppens joined Nelson Mullins in 1989 and is a member of the Firm's Consumer Product Safety, Risk Prevention and Regulatory Practice Group and its Consumer & Mechanical Products Litigation Group. As president of DRI, he was instrumental in fostering the engagement and development of young lawyers.
"We need to understand how the needs of young lawyers might be different than what it was for me 25 years ago," he said. "I think they're a smart group; I think they're a discerning group."
