In a Q&A with Law.com, Daniel Sanders discusses his path to becoming Nelson Mullins’ general counsel and insights on leadership, mentorship, and effective working relationships.
When asked what he would tell an associate general counsel preparing to become general counsel, Sanders said, “Over the years, younger people often have asked me how to be promoted. In response, I asked them who elected [Martin Luther King Jr.] the leader of the civil rights movement? The answer is nobody – he elected himself and did extraordinary and enduring work. You likewise can elect yourself in your career by focusing intently on the work at hand and energizing others around you to contribute meaningfully. Elect yourself as the next GC.”
