The Florida Bar Board of Governors voted to banish the words “diversity and inclusion” from its organizational policy on Dec. 13. In a Bloomberg Law article, Fort Lauderdale partner Harsh Arora, a participant in the firm’s DEI work and former member of the bar’s terminated “Diversity & Inclusion Committee” explained the implications—the shift means firms and private groups must now fill the gaps.
“My message is that now, more than ever, it’s the responsibility of the firms and the voluntary bars,” he said. “Attorneys are going to need to do their part—it’s just that source of funding, and the effort we put in, will be different now.”
