Nelson Mullins Columbia partner Heyward Bonyata was featured in the article on Law.com, "Companies' New E-Discovery Obligation: Find Out How Your Employees Are Communicating." The article reflected on Bonyata's recent speaking engagement at Legalweek 2022's "Real World eDiscovery Challenges Posed by Communication Tools."
At Legalweek, Bonyata stressed that attorneys and communication platforms like Zoom, Gchat, and Slack, have very different goals. “These [collaboration] companies, they are not e-discovery companies. Their bread-and-butter is not to make content easily discoverable and easy to export out or easy to attach metadata,” Bonyata said. “Their business is helping you communicate effectively and quickly.”
The session focused on e-discovery attorneys' thoughts on how companies don’t keep track of the various tools their employees use to conduct business-related communication.
Bonyata practices in the areas of electronic discovery, information management, business litigation, antitrust litigation, and pharmaceutical and medical device litigation.
