Raleigh partner Noah Huffstetler has been on the forefront of many of North Carolina’s high-profile contested Certificates of Need, which gives the state control of medical resources. The controversial program is praised as a protection for healthcare consumers, but others say it is an unfair restraint on healthcare providers.
In an interview with Carolina Journal, Huffstetler recalls the battle waged by Presbyterian Hospital to prevent losing $48 million in investments before it had completed the CON process. “My client said, ‘We can’t afford to lose this.’ And it was like, thanks,” Huffstetler said. “I have never been under more pressure to win a case than that."
