In a profile piece about Nelson Mullins Raleigh Managing Partner Bob Wilson that was published by the Daily Report on June 20, 2023, Wilson discusses his consideration as a finalist for the 2023 Attorney of the Year Award as part of the inaugural Southeastern Legal Awards, the Rural Health Initiative, and healthcare law.

Discussing his upbringing, Wilson talked about his roots from Aulander, North Carolina, and how there was only one lawyer in a 1,000-person town. He found his passion for healthcare law when he had a clerkship at the North Carolina Court of Appeals, where he learned about cases other than medical malpractice. “My heart and my passion have sort of always been in rural community healthcare, because I was born in a rural community hospital and grew up in a rural area and knew the importance that was attached to the local hospital,” Wilson said.

His passion and background are what led him to establish the Rural Health Initiative, which aims to provide healthcare services and facilities to people in rural areas.  

According to the newspaper, the awards program previously known as the Georgia Legal Awards, was expanded in 2023 to include Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi.
