What inspired you to pursue a career in law?
When I went to Emory College, I was on the “Pre-Med" track. I took a gap year and decided to pursue a Master's in Public Health. It was during my time as a public health student – majoring in health policy – that I saw the impact that law can have on a community. That's what led me to Emory Law!
Why did you select your practice area?
I fell in love with litigation after finishing my second year at Emory Law when I participated in its Kessler-Eidson Program for Trial Techniques. I loved working with my team to bring a case to trial. That summer, I interned with the Department of Labor in Atlanta, and I received a lot of gratification for helping employees. After law school, I began my career at a boutique litigation firm in Atlanta. I quickly realized that I wanted to advise employers and help companies “do the right thing". Today, I am fortunate to be able to combine my various passions and skillsets to help companies overcome their hurdles with business oriented solutions.
What qualities do you admire most about your peers in the legal profession?
Our industry is service oriented, and I would say that is the quality I admire most about my peers. We are lawyers who serve our communities, clients, and each other. To me, “Service is what life is all about" because it creates meaning and purpose. By serving, we are making a positive contribution in our communities, for our clients, and supporting each other.
What are you most proud of in your career so far? Any specific accomplishments you would like to share?
Earlier this year, I went to trial in federal court with my team in Texas where I assisted with jury voir dire, trial strategy and cross examination of an expert witness. That was a very meaningful milestone for me, and I learned a lot from that case. Luckily, I worked with a fantastic team – two senior partners and one senior paralegal who had a lot more experience to guide and mentor me. To say that each of us worked “hard" is the understatement of the year, but we secured a great result for the client, so much so that the opposing party asked the lead trial attorney if Nelson Mullins can represent it! I was excited to bring that “W" home.
