Proven in the Breach: Stories of How to Prepare for, and Survive, Data Attacks
With real-life stories and in-depth discussion of legal and practical considerations, former Chief Privacy Officer and Nelson Mullins Partner Roy Wyman addressed how companies can best prepare for security incidents at the Association of Corporate Counsel North Florida Chapter Continuing Legal Education Event Aug. 1.
The headlines, as well as regulations, suggest that all breaches are similar and that addressing them is an “IT issue.” Security crises, however, are more like unruly kids on a field trip—each destructive in its own, unique way. Wyman discussed a variety of different types of privacy losses, from organized hacking and ransomware to simple employee mistakes, the unique issues that each type of incident can raise, and how best to prepare for situations that are chaotic and potentially catastrophic.
Attendees learned how to:
- Construct a compliance program ready to address potential breaches and increase overall security
- Organize an incident response team
- Design an incident response plan
- Avoid, or lessen, financial loss
