National Tax Lien Association (NTLA) 2025 Fall Symposium
Columbia partner Matt Abee will be presenting, “Under Siege Again: The Supreme Court’s Next Move and What It Means for Our Industry,” at the National Tax Lien Association’s (NTLA) 2025 Fall Symposium in Savannah on October 24.
On the second day of the two-day event, Abee will present alongside his co-panelists, Gregory Jacovini with ProCapital, and Anna Momsen with Carlisle Law. The trio will discuss the impact of Tyler v. Hennepin County, and the recent development of the United States Supreme Court agreeing to hear Pung v. Isabella County, Michigan (No. 25-95): a farther-reaching case that could redefine how governments, investors, and municipalities manage property tax foreclosures and balance public revenue with private property rights. The panel will highlight the critical role of the National Tax Lien Association in protecting industry integrity, informing policymakers, and ensuring our voice is represented at the national level. The group will discuss the constitutional issues related to Pung, the ripple effect of Tyler, and much more.
Abee is a partner with the law firm of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP, an AmLaw 60 firm with more than 1,000 attorneys coast to coast. He is a member of the firm’s Tax Lien Litigation and Resolution Team, and handles class actions and appeals in the state and federal courts. Abee has appeared for the National Tax Lien Association as an amicus party before the United States Supreme Court in Tyler v. Hennepin County and the Alabama Supreme Court in Stiff v. Equivest. He is based in Columbia, South Carolina, and is licensed to practice law in South Carolina and North Carolina.
The NTLA Fall Symposium is an annual conference that serves to attract tax lien and deed professionals of various backgrounds and experience levels to connect with one another over “the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities in the industry.” With a broad agenda, attendees will further their education of the tax lien and deed space while meeting individuals with a similar focus.
