In an article published by McKnight’s Long-Term Care News on March 6, 2023, Boston Partner Christine Burke Worthen and Nashville Associate Lily Shannon examine a new policy by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, which require nursing homes to post “disputed facility inspection results” on government websites before the disputes are confirmed or rejected.
While the policy is intended for improved transparency, it can make it difficult for consumers to make an informed decision about a nursing home with a list of unresolved disputes. Worthen and Shannon wrote, “This new policy highlights the heightened importance of moving quickly and efficiently through the dispute process.” Nursing homes’ star ratings will not be affected until disputes are conclusive and closed.
